HIF-3201: Image/Culture/War - 2012

General Information

ICW is an interdisciplinary course offered by the Department of Culture and Literature at Tromsø University.

The course is open for MA students from the Humanities and the Social Sciences and is especially recommended for students enrolled in the MPCT.

Autumn term; 10 credits (20 ECTS)

13 lectures, 4 film seminars: take place on Tuesdays (lectures) and Mondays (film seminars)
Lectures: 1215-1345 at room E-0103
Film seminars: 1200-1300 room E-2003 (3.9., 17.9., 8.10. & 22.10.)

First lecture: 21.08.12 at 12:15 room E-0103
Final lecture: 30.10.12
Course paper due: 21.11.12

Readings and language of instruction: English

Examination:

2 work requirements:

1 Paper: Abstract and annotated bibliography of project paper (due 22.10.12 )

1 Oral Presentation of student projects at simulated conference (max. 15 minutes incl. q/a): due 06.or 13.11.12

Exam:
1 Project Essay (approx. 4000 words) about subject of student's own choice: due 21.11.12 (graded A-F)
Students may choose any visual representation of any form of violence (direct, structural, cultural) as the subject of their essays. A maximum of two students may cooperate on an essay. In this case the required length is 7-8000 words. The acquired grade will be the same for both cooperating students.
